An important change was implemented this week on the West Highway, one of the country's busiest routes, modifying the speed limits. As stipulated by the National Agency for Road Safety (ANSV) and the highway concessionaire, the maximum permitted speed was reduced from 130 km/h to 110 km/h. The modification, which aims to decrease the number of accidents recorded in recent months due to speeding, applies to the entire main stretch of the highway, from its start in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires to the district of Luján. Authorities have announced that the new regulation will be accompanied by mobile patrols and fixed-speed cameras to ensure strict compliance. Furthermore, vertical and luminous signage will be reinforced to warn drivers about the new 110 km/h limits, especially in the urban areas of Morón, Ituzaingó, Hurlingham, and Moreno. The ANSV emphasized that the measure "seeks to protect lives, not to punish" and reminded that respecting speed limits can reduce the chances of being in a serious accident by up to 40%.
